ABOUT US

Aspiring Medics Society (AMS) aims to provide students from non-medical degrees (e.g. biomedical
science e.t.c.) who wish to apply for graduate entry medicine or apply for the internal medical transfer
scheme a place to convene, and share our feelings and ideas as we all progress through the application
process.
Another aim of this society is to demystify the application process, enabling every member to see clearly
where they currently are on the application timeline and what they need to do in order to progress in their
applications in apt timing. This will hopefully ensure the prevention of burnout and reduction stress that
otherwise consumes medical applicants who cram and leave key stages of their application to the final
minute.
In terms of the application we will work on honing our interview skills, personal statement writing,
GAMSAT and UCAT skills, Work Experience, Volunteering and also take part in research.

Society members should expect a variety of activities to help their application to medical school stand out.
For example: Talks from current medical students and Doctors, Medicine related reading club, Ethical
debates, mock interviews, first aid course, suturing practice, UCAT and GAMSAT tips and tricks, How to
manage studies advice ect.
Activities that require advice from high scoring candidates (e.g. UCAT or GAMSAT) or experts in the field
(first aid course) will only be led by these respective candidates and experts. Unqualified individuals will
not run activities that require expertise.
