Pride Month is a time to celebrate identity, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward equality. It is also a moment to pause and reflect on what it truly means to create a university community where every student feels safe, valued, and able to be their authentic self.

As your Welfare and Liberation Officer, I want to be clear: you belong here. Whether you are openly proud, quietly questioning, or still figuring things out, you deserve respect, dignity, and support. Pride is not only about celebration it is also about care, wellbeing, and standing together, especially when things feel difficult.

University life can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. For LGBTQ+ students, this can sometimes come with added pressures navigating identity, dealing with isolation, or facing discrimination. If this resonates with you, please know that you are not alone. Support is available, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Our Union is committed to working with the University to ensure that welfare services, library spaces, and learning environments are inclusive and accessible to all. If something isn’t working for you, or if you feel unsupported, your voice matters. Change begins when we listen to one another.

Pride Month is also a call to allyship. Creating an inclusive campus is a shared responsibility. Simple actions such as checking in on friends, challenging harmful language, and educating ourselves can make a real difference.

This Pride Month, let’s continue building a community rooted in care, respect, and pride in who we are together.
