Welcome! 👋

We're a new club. We'll be looking to organise a first climb together towards the end of October. Everyone is welcome, whether you've climbed before or want to give it a try. It's a very social and fun sport, not competitive at all. We'll organise our first session in the whatsApp group. If the QR code is giving you issues, or you have any other questions etc just send us an email ⎯  aruclimbingclub.cambs@arunion.co.uk

FAQs ❓

• Where will we climb?  ⎯ Cambridge is lucky to have 2 good climbing (indoor bouldering) facilities. Rainbow Rocket (link) is a dedicated bouldering centre. Kelsey Kerridge (link) has a great climbing space, and is only a 2 min walk from ARU. We'll decide as a group in whatsApp where we climb.
• When / what days / how often?  ⎯ TBD. We'll decide this as a group as well. Likely once or twice a month, maybe weekly if people are keen!
• I've never done it before!  ⎯ That's completely fine! There are a large range of different climbing "problems", from young kids upwards. There will definitely be a bunch of problems for whatever your current level.
• Do we need anything?  ⎯ Nope. If you get into it you may want climbing shoes. But these can be hired from Rainbow Rocket (and are included for free with their student rates 🙌)
• How much will it cost? ⎯ Around £8 for Rainbow Rocket (which includes shoe hire). This is a discounted student group price. It's a bit cheaper at Kelsey Kerridge, but they don't do shoe hire.
• What about heights? ⎯ These are indoor bouldering centres - meaning no ropes, and there are soft mats under all climbs. The heights vary a little, but the highest is only about 4m. And you're the boss, just climb to where you're comfortable.
• Do I have to pay the £5 fee to join the club immediately? ⎯ No. You're welcome to come for a climb and then figure out if you enjoyed it enough to make it semi-regular! We'll decide as a club how we spend this money. A min joining fee is required by the union, and we've set it to this basically.
