Established in 2023, the Anglia Ruskin University Trauma & Orthopaedics Society (ARU T&O Society) is dedicated to advancing musculoskeletal education and nurturing the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. Through teaching, practical skills development and engagement with clinicians, we aim to cultivate students’ interest in trauma and orthopaedic surgery and provide a foundation for their future careers in the specialty.
With the support of surgeons and healthcare professionals across Essex’s hospitals and specialist orthopaedic centres, the Society strives to establish a vibrant community of learning, collaboration and professional development, connecting aspiring surgeons with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to pursue a career in orthopaedics.
Re-established in September 2026, the Society enters an exciting new chapter, with a programme centred on specialist-led sawbones workshops, revision sessions covering the core principles of musculoskeletal medicine and orthopaedics, and our inaugural conference in April 2027. Through these initiatives, we aim to enrich medical education at Anglia Ruskin University, inspire future generations of surgeons and strengthen the university’s growing presence within the orthopaedic community.

❗️Conference in April: An Orthopaedic Toolkit, aimed at medical students and foundation doctors interested in careers in orthopaedics, focuses on the skills that surgeons of all levels have built up to join and work, on their orthopaedic training programmes and in their practice❗️
