This bye-law applies to all Union-affiliated Clubs and Societies and outlines terms and requirements to successfully run student-led groups. Anglia Ruskin Students’ Union does not recognise any student-led groups that are not affiliated as described below.

ARU Students’ Union expects all members and guests to engage positively and appropriately when acting as a representative of the Union in affiliated Club or Society activities. The Union recognises that sometimes an individual or group’s behaviour may fall short of the standards we expect. This procedure sets out how to make a complaint and the steps that members can expect the Union to take when dealing with such a complaint. This procedure does not cover complaints involving criminal activity.

A guest speaker is anyone invited to deliver a presentation, talk or lecture at UNION, excluding current ARU registered students. This includes all club and society events. Anglia Ruskin Students’ Union under the brand name UNION processes guest speaker requests under delegation from Anglia Ruskin University, who holds legal responsibility for freedom of speech duties under the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023. The starting point is that events should go ahead, with cancellation being exceptional.
