Campaign for Change

The Union is made up of over 30,000 members across 5 campuses – campaigning together let us use that strength to make big changes for students!

OUR CAMPAIGNS

A campaign is where students organise to improve conditions at the university on a wide variety of issues, be that in academics like getting class sizes reduced, or tackling social issues which exist across society like racism.

No active campaigns at the moment. Maybe you should start one!

RUN A CAMPAIGN

The Union supports our members to create and win campaigns, giving you administrative support and advice, as well as access to finances – but it’s up to you to get out there and make the change you want to see!

Cutting Class Size in FBL

In 2024, our Union Officer, Neelima Muraleedharan-Menon, fought for class sizes to be reduced to improve learning.

Before this campaign, MBA students were being packed into classes of up to 400 students. We fought to limit that to 100.

Alongside course reps, Neelima pushed ARU to consider the impact large classes was having on students’ experience.

Peer Mentoring

You’ve probably seen the Peer Mentors around campus, did you know we founded that program?

In 2018, Union Officer, Fraser Luther-Yarwood, created a scheme where students would have access to a mentor, a point of contact for student life.

This was taken up by ARU enthusiastically who now run the program full-time!

'Hello, my pronouns are...'

In 2018, Michael Turner and Niamh Cubitt, started a campaign raising awareness of pronoun usage for transgender people.

We created badges with different pronouns on and gave them away for free to students and staff.

This helped us raise awareness around trans identities and make our campuses a more inclusive environment for all.
