I am running for Writtle Officer because I want every student to feel heard, supported, and like they truly belong here.
Growing up, education was not always a safe place for me. I experienced bullying, isolation, and struggled with my mental health, which made me feel alone and unheard. Because of this, I understand how important it is for students to feel supported and accepted. No one should ever feel like they do not belong or have nowhere to turn.
When I first attended university, I also faced serious physical health challenges which caused me to miss time and become isolated. Returning to ARU Writtle in 2024 was a turning point for me. I pushed myself outside my comfort zone, moved onto campus independently, became a Course Representative, volunteered with the Students’ Union, and began actively supporting other students.
As Course Rep, I have supported students through group chats, gathered feedback, and helped ensure student voices are heard. I have always tried to help wherever I can, whether that is supporting students academically, personally, or simply being someone they can talk to. Through this, I found confidence, community, and purpose. I want every student at Writtle to feel that same sense of belonging.
I know that university can feel overwhelming at times, especially when students do not know where to go or who to speak to. If elected, I will be someone students can rely on — approachable, present, and genuinely committed to listening and helping.
My priorities are to:
• Ensure every student feels heard and represented
• Help create a more inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment
• Be approachable and accessible to all students
• Continue strengthening student wellbeing and sense of community
I care deeply about helping others, and I am committed to making a positive difference for Writtle students. I know what it feels like to struggle, and that is why I will always listen, always care, and always do everything I can to support you.
It would be an honour to represent you as your Writtle Officer. Vote Shauna Brereton Someone who understands. Someone who listens. Someone who cares.
