ALI HASSAN

Ali Hassan for Welfare & Liberation Officer
My name is Ali Hassan, and I am currently studying an LLM in Law at Anglia Ruskin University. I am originally from Pakistan and moved to London to pursue my Master’s degree. I am now running to be your Welfare & Liberation Officer at the Anglia Ruskin University Students’ Union.
As Welfare & Liberation Officer, my goal is to make student support more visible, accessible, and trusted. I want to help create a university environment where every student feels safe, supported, valued, and able to enjoy their academic journey.
University life can be exciting, but it can also be challenging. Many students face mental health pressures, financial stress, academic concerns, disability-related barriers, or feelings of isolation. No student should have to deal with these challenges alone.

My Priorities
Mental Health and Wellbeing Support
I will actively support and promote the latest Mental Health Agreement to ensure students receive timely and effective support. I will work to reduce stigma around mental health and encourage open conversations through campaigns and events.
Accessible and Visible Student Support Services
Support services are only effective if students know about them. I will make student support services more visible, easier to access, and more approachable for everyone.
Disability Support and Inclusion
Every student deserves equal opportunities. I will work to improve support for students with disabilities and ensure that both visible and invisible disabilities are properly recognised and supported.
Suicide Prevention and Awareness
Student safety is a priority. I will promote suicide prevention campaigns, increase awareness about available support, and ensure students know how and where to seek help in times of crisis.
Everyday Student Life Support
University life comes with daily challenges. I will help students with practical concerns, listen to their issues, and work with the university to find solutions.
Student Engagement Through Podcasts
I will record regular podcasts to stay connected with students, discuss important topics, and create a platform where student voices can be heard.
Wellbeing Wednesday Across Campuses
I will organise Wellbeing Wednesday events across all campuses to promote relaxation, connection, and positive mental health.
My Commitment
As your Welfare & Liberation Officer, I will stand for equality, inclusion, and fairness. I will support underrepresented groups, celebrate diversity, and ensure every student feels respected and valued.
Together, we can create a university community where everyone feels supported and empowered to succeed.
