VISHAKA CHHABRIA (Common Voice)

Hello, I’m Vishaka Chhabria, a second year BEng Computer Science student at Anglia Ruskin University, and I am standing for Union President.

I believe the Union should be a place where every student feels included, represented, and encouraged to take part in campus life. Through my experience as a Faculty Representative, President of the Indian Society, and Front Desk Representative at the Union, I have seen how powerful student voices can be when supported by strong leadership.

As President, I want to make the Union more active, inclusive, and truly student led.

My Vision

I will serve as the primary representative of students at university and external levels, ensuring student voices shape real decisions. My goal is to build a Union where participation is easy, diversity is celebrated, and every student feels they belong.

1. Inclusion, Diversity & Student Participation

  • Ensure all students feel represented, regardless of background, course, culture, or identity.
  • Increase student participation in Union activities, elections, societies, and campaigns.
  • Strengthen democratic structures so students can directly influence Union priorities and decisions

2. Strong Leadership & Collaboration Across the Union

  • Lead and support the officer team to ensure their work aligns with student needs and Union priorities.
  • Work closely with all officers to deliver Union wide impact and coordinated campaigns.
  • Represent students on University Boards, committees, and external platforms with confidence and accountability.

3. Communication Between Students and the Union

  • Improve transparency through regular updates, open forums, and digital platforms.
  • Create clear and accessible ways for students to share feedback, concerns, and ideas.
  • Strengthen relationships with faculties and academic staff to improve the academic experience.

4. Active Campus Life

  • Support societies and sports clubs to increase engagement, funding opportunities, and membership.
  • Encourage student led events, competitions, cultural programmes, and creative activities across campuses.
  • Promote interdepartmental activities to bring students together beyond their course

5. Cost-of-Living & Practical Student Support

  • Advocate for affordable and accessible services on campus, including food, transport, and study spaces.
  • Work with the University and catering services to bring back the £1 meal scheme and expand low-cost, healthy food options.
  • Explore additional cost of living support initiatives with the Union and University, ensuring students are supported during financial pressures.

6. Wellbeing & Student Support Culture

  • Promote a campus culture where wellbeing and mental health are openly discussed.
  • Work with the University and Union officers to improve awareness and access to support services.
  • Encourage social and creative activities that help students connect and express themselves.

7. Digital Innovation & Accessibility

  • Use digital platforms such as podcasts, videos, and online forums to keep students informed and involved.
  • Improve accessibility in Union activities and communications for all students.
  • Use technology to connect students across campuses and learning modes.

8. Open and Approachable Leadership

  • Maintain an open-door policy so students can approach me with ideas, questions, or concerns.
  • Be visible, approachable, and active on campus.
  • Lead with transparency, accountability, and collaboration.

Why Me?

I understand how the Union works and how students experience it. I am organised, approachable, and committed to delivering real change.

As President, I will lead with integrity, amplify student voices, and turn student ideas into action.

Let’s build a more inclusive, active, and student driven Union together.

Vote Vishaka Chhabria for Union President.
