Gokul Thulasee Das – Chelmsford Student Officer
Chelmsford First. Every Student Heard.
Introduction
I’m Gokul, a student at the Chelmsford campus currently pursuing my Master’s degree while balancing academic responsibilities and part-time work. As an international student, I understand first-hand what it feels like to leave family behind, arrive in a new country alone, and navigate the early challenges of settling into an unfamiliar system. From understanding university processes to adjusting to a new environment, those first weeks can be overwhelming without the right support.
As Chelmsford Student Officer, I will actively engage with students, listen to their concerns through regular conversations and feedback sessions, raise Chelmsford-specific issues directly in Students’ Union decision-making forums, and provide clear “You Said – We Did” updates so students can see real progress. My aim is to ensure that no student feels unheard, unsupported, or disconnected during their time at Chelmsford.
What the Role Means to Me
To me, the role of Chelmsford Student Officer is about being a reliable, accountable, and visible voice for students on this campus. It means actively listening to student experiences, raising Chelmsford-specific concerns within Students’ Union and university decision-making spaces, and ensuring those concerns are not only acknowledged but followed through with clear outcomes. I see this role as a bridge between students, the Students’ Union, and the university — ensuring communication flows both ways and that Chelmsford students are consistently represented in wider Union initiatives. Most importantly, it means turning student feedback into meaningful, visible action.
Forward way, not filed away.
My Priorities
1. Student Voice – Proper Representation, Done Right
I will actively listen to students, represent Chelmsford-specific concerns responsibly, and ensure issues are clearly raised and followed up.
2. Communication & Transparency – Keeping Students Informed
I will communicate clearly about what issues are being raised, share honest updates, and explain outcomes and limitations.
3. Supporting New Students – Helping You Settle In
I will support new students by offering guidance, signposting support services, and encouraging peer connections.
4. Chelmsford Representation Within the Union – Staying Connected
I will act as a consistent link between Chelmsford students and the Students’ Union.
5. Inclusion & Accessibility – Representation That Reflects Real Student Life
I will ensure diverse student voices are heard and promote accessible ways to engage.
Why Choose Me?
I am standing for this role to represent Chelmsford students honestly, responsibly, and consistently. As an international student who has experienced moving away from family and settling into a new place alone, I understand how important clear guidance and communication are — especially during the early stages of university life.
Alongside my studies, I balance real responsibilities, which has shaped how I approach accountability and follow-through. I will listen carefully, represent student concerns clearly, and be transparent about progress and limitations.
If you are looking for a Chelmsford Student Officer who will take your concerns seriously, carry them forward properly, and keep you informed, I would be proud to represent you.
